Mr. Cellophane

I was pretty whiny about the specialty soundtrack releases a few weeks ago, (Along Came a Spider? Fucking seriously?), but the last week has seen an impressive upswing.

In a Film Score Monthly message board thread speculating about the new Varese Club releases, some people were still high on seeing more Goldsmith releases from the labels. However, given that this year alone has already seen Looney Tunes: Back in Action, Face of a Fugitive, Along Came a Spider and the eighth (I believe) release of Rio Conchos, you can't help but wonder if - maybe - the Goldsmith well has been tapped dry.

I pretty much agreed with someone who felt this way, stating, "...unless some label wants to pull the trigger on a complete Lionheart or The 13th Warrior or Supergirl (or unearths the entirety of S*P*Y*S), maybe give Jerry a rest for a while?".

Friday - Varese Sarabande announces complete editions of Marco Beltrami's Knowing...and Jerry Goldsmith's Lionheart (which I immediately ordered).

Saturday - La La Land announces their releases for the month and among them is the third volume of their Goldsmith at 20th Century Fox series, said to feature expanded editions of The Stripper...and S*P*Y*S.

I'm sorry, but I got to say it: "Naked, big-titted redheads don't just fall out of the fucking sky!" Worth a shot.

P.S. Richard Einhorn's lovely work for the wholly-undeserving early 80s slasher movie The Prowler getting a CD release was also a nice surprise.

P.P.S. I still think that Jerry should be given a rest. At least until the playing field is evened out a little. Maybe, some releases of music from these chaps?
